City of Koronadal - To make public school pupils “fit for school” by promoting simple proper hygiene and healthy lifestyle, the City of Koronadal, thru Mayor Peter Miguel, signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the LGU-Koronadal, the Department of Education, City Division and the Fit for School, Inc. on November 22, 2011 at the City Hall lobby in preparation for the launch of Essential Health Care Program (EHCP) in the city as a preventive health and behavior measures aimed at sustaining healthy behavior and long term health improvements for public elementary school pupils.
The MOA signing was also graced by Mr. Democrito Figueroa, Jr., ECHP National Coordinator, Mr. Edward Dawatan, Regional-12 Project Officer- Fit for School, Mr. Mario Madrero, OIC City Schools Division Superintendent and the City Officials.
Mayor Miguel, a medical doctor himself by profession, had been active in addressing health issues of Koronadaleños and welcomed most the program to make the city’s public elementary schools healthy public places promoting basic hygiene as daily routine to minimize if not eliminate childhood diseases contributory to high occurrence of absences or even children quitting school.
With PhP500, 000 allocated by LGU-Koronadal as counterpart fund, the mayor gave assurance for the quality implementation of the program through the DepEd City Division and pledged to sustain the same especially that the Fit for School is encouraging the City of Koronadal to be the model for the said health care program in the entire Philippines owing to the wholehearted support of Mayor Miguel.
Fit for School Incorporated, is a Philippine NGO committed to support the Health and Education Sectors in delivering school-based health interventions at large scale. The concept is to promote the simple impact and cost-effective Essential Health Care Program (EHCP), which addresses high-impact childhood diseases in the Philippines.
The implementation of this program consists of daily group hand washing with soap, daily toothbrushing with fluoride toothpaste and bi-annual deworming of children attending public schools and day care centers.//
